    Hi All,

So a few weeks back I set about getting the TF back on the road and it went relatively smoothly. New exhaust, new alloys and tyres, a bit of general maintenance followed by a fresh MOT, some tax and insurance

On the MOT there was a note about the brake fluid level being low and I confirmed that with the flashing of the handbrake light on the dash - fair enough I thought, hadn't been serviced in a while so probably due for replacement.......until after topping it up the problem came back.

So now that I'm working from home with Lockdown Mk2 an hour of lunchtime can be put to good use on the MG.

After loosing fluid and seeing some damp on the ground but no obvious leaks I decided to take the wheel off, jack it up and take more of a look.

Here are some videos and photos of what I have found - looks like something off of Chernobyl.

The plan is to make up a new brake line that will go from the T piece in front of the engine around to the rear where it meets the flexi with a new flexi. I've been looking at some videos on flaring and cunifer and then get a pair of rear Goodridge hoses. Do the one as a stop gap and then do the rest when the weather is better. Of course new fluid and some bleeding.

So back to the title......how did this make it through an MOT in that state :omg:

  • That looks awesome - although I like the idea of a low coolant alarm I never liked the idea of drilling or mucking around with the expansion tank too much to introduce another potential chance for cooling failure. Will have to check these out.

  • Hi James,

Although mine is a TF I used to have the ZE914's on it when it was last used back in 2018. Since putting it back on the road again a few weeks back I put the Falken ZIEX ZE310 tyres on and am suitably impressed. Perhaps a set of those would work well? If I recall correctly I saw online that they are ok for the MG's. So far touch wood mine haven't let me down in the wet or dry.

    Richard

Nice one! Would take the TF any day over the car that is in front on the ferry.

As I've always said best smiles per £ ratio that ever existed!!

Unfortunately mine is a solo enjoyment at the moment unless the little one is at a grandparents or childcare then the wife and come and listen to the Daytona too hehe

  • Quick Update

Been having a blast driving the old girl to work a few times last week (handy on with a country road commute 20 miles each way).

Have fixed the flickering handbrake light with some more brake fluid.

Have fixed the dodgey headlight with one of the connectors recommended by Bruce, thanks for that and got a spare too.

Really tempted by DRL angel eyes/halo's!! lol

Done about 100 miles and coolant marginally went down (a few mm) but only seems to go down when left over night for a few nights. Hoping not bled properly. No steam from the exhaust and can't see any obviously locations of loss.

Had a silly moment the other day when I was chatting to a friend who lives a street down from our - of course left the headlights on and wouldn't start. Had to walk to one of the other cars and use it for a jump. New battery also fitted as the previous one was from 2013 when I got the car and who knows how long before.

New badge ready too - will get another for the back.

Loving the Daytona 3k revs+. Basically a Tesla <3k rpm. 5k RPM F1 car heheheheh

  • Nice one Bruce and good write up. Look like mine suffered the same fate as yours in the photos.

Looks like a nice car - better condition than mine. You know you want to give it another go ;-) I think your price is fair. Best of luck with the project/selling (delete as appropriate hehe)
