OK so I've actually given up. Short of replacing the rear of the car I'm at my wits end. Went round and tied up every possible loose thing including the silly air intake duct which just seems to randomly dangle. No luck. Booked it into a tf specialist and told them to keep the damn thing until they have fixed the noise. It's such fun to drive but the incessant klonk or clunck is worrying and intolerable. I'll report back and tell you. And yes I have checked the boot for a loose tyre lever. Thanks for everyone's suggestions. As it happens I knew about the petard. But hoists scare me. I think I'm going to dig an inspection pit. If the car doesn't work I'll just make the pit a bit bigger and bury the damn thing.
Hi. I spent £270 at the MG specialist in Uckfield😠 and another £20 at the specialist in Maidstone near Headcorn Neither were any good. I've done everything they suggested.
I'm definitely going to need in person help from someone here please. An infinite number of pints or any other currency for someone who can listen in person and lives within a 200 mile radius.
I've replaced the passenger side engine mount. Can't get bolts off drivers side mount. No change in klonk. I paid a gentleman in Uckfield £270 to fail to diagnose the problem. His advice was almost as useful as the suggestions on here. Grrr. Anyway is there someone I can take it to to help me identify the noise? I hate driving the damn thing
Thanks for the explanation. I had a look - the nut was torqued up to a fair-the-well but the collar hadn't been driven into the slot so I've done that. Unfortunately that wasn't the source of the noise but perhaps the wheel won't come off?
