  • Finally took the cover off the car and spent a happy (high) morning taking the sticky rubber coating off the centre dash fascia using cellulose thinners, a quick sand and then sprayed mini Astro black as I had some laying about  , took the old gaiters or what was left of them, off the gearstick and handbrake and replaced with snazzy new ones with red stitching to match the roof! The difference is immense, and with all the clips now in, no more creaky dash.. the car is actually squeak free! Then put the roof down and took it out in the sun as a treat..

  • I ended up buying one from mgfntfbits and it fitted straight on, I did replace the cat and rear box at the same time, but bought all three parts from different places (just to be awkward).. the fun bit was the fact the front O2 sensor is mounted in that section, in the crook where two pipes go into one.. I ended up using a grinder to free it (it being a Sunday and the chances of getting a replacement exactly zero) but in hindsight, I’d get a new one.. the issue most have with the section you’re replacing is that it’s too short, so the bend at the rear catches on the central lashing point under the car.. the mgfntf one ‘just’ fits, lastly I recommend prepping the mating faces with scotchbrite, preferably on a drill attachment.. mine had a dot of weld spatter on it which would have been annoying!
Oh and I used hi temp silicone (just a wipe) gasket for the faces too, (touch wood) it’s been fine ever since! Some 3000 miles..

  • Address is; Barton TA28QT
The good thing about these brokers is that apart from being cheaper it’s far simpler to choose between dropping off at a parcel shop or arranging a collection. I am lucky in that I pass Hermes, Evri, DPD and UPS drop off shops on my five mile journey going to work.

Hi Phillip, quick update, I bought some pallet wrap this week which has now turned up so I’m going to give wrapping it a go! If that works, should be good to send it! I will return once I’ve had a go

  • Hi there
I would buy your exhaust if you would ship it to me, I use parcel2go.com for UK parcels and parcelhero.com for International parcels (I send MGB OD gearboxes to the USA) .

Hey! Hmm, I’d have to find a box… let me see if I’ve got material to pack it up at work, if you drop me a message with your address I could get a quote

  • Oh MG created a new forum post in For Sale
About a month old, I bought two! Tried both and stuck with the louder one (sorry neighbours), this is wonderful though, great quality welds, fitted like a glove, looked great! Fantastic condition and deep but not too loud, a great upgrade to any MGF

It’s from Gravity exhausts and was £220 new

Will only fit later models with the bend in the cat, if in doubt look under your car and see where the flange is (insert joke here)

£140 collected from RH15, Burgess Hill, Sussex

  • Bled the clutch, and changed the oil! Only a few months since the last one but the car was sitting for some time beforehand so while the lid is off it seemed sensible, magnatec 10-40 as usual, no lifter treatment this time, she’s a bit clattery when cold but seems to really quieten down when warm so I gave her a thorough engine flush at high revs to clear the oil ways just in case.. seems quieter now but only a long run will tell! Timed perfectly too, did the last clip up on the roof and the heavens opened and haven’t stopped since, it’s torrential so it will be interesting to see just how much of a foot spa I have in the morning  it can’t be any worse than my old mk2 scirocco which used to fill up to the door shuts if you parked on a hill! Took me weeks of f*ckery with a hose to find the offending leak.. bloody cars

  • FINALLY got round to swapping out the rotten underfloor coolant pipes for stainless ones, sourced from Sam’s Autos.. I have to say, grovelling around under the car undoing 6000 bolts which hold the skid tray on was awful, but rewarding, old pipes off, gave the inside of the rubber a good scotchbrite to get rid of any red death clinging on, a wipe of hylomar around the ends of the new pipes and it all fitted perfectly! Cooling system bled in the three points and the heater is hot and engine cool  although while the cover is off (for the thousandth time this year) I’m going to bleed the clutch and lube the clutch arm and cylinder, it’s an oft missed point but can cause real headaches on these! God bless ‘working from home’
