Oil in spark plug recess. 6 years 11 months ago #177377

Hi

I have oil leaking into all 4 spark plug recesses, as the car has had a head gasket replacement I assume that the sealant on the cam ladder got cooked and has failed.(already fitted new cam cover gasket)
As I am planning to replace cambelt ,water pump and tensioner soon, it's not too much extra work to take off the cam ladder and replace the sealant at the same time.Has anyone any tips on this job,or know of another simply fix.

When stripped down, check for warping with a good straight edge.

Then make sure you use the correct sealant (not silicone). Needs to be anaerobic, which only sets with the exclusion of air, otherwise risk of blocking oil passages.

Dont forget to replace cam seals with correct ones (different at each end).

I know it's probably not the case but I've had a sloppy service or two in my time.I found the mechanics have missed the filler hole and put quite a bit of oil in the spark plug holes.

It had me worried till I realised what they had done.Another reason for me doing my own oil changes nowadays.

Like I said it's probably not your problem but i think it's worth a mention.
