What to do about hiding the heat shield? 9 years 5 months ago #152169

I'm after advice, experiences and even opinions (come to the right place then) please on what to do to smarten-up my rear end. I think with the MGF there seem to be 3 options to hide or make the heat shield more presentable:

1. - install mesh in to the rear bumper

2. - use a stainless steel cover such as made my Mike Satur or supplied by B&G to provide a shiny look

or 3 - paint the cover with a matt black finish so that is disappears.

Has anyone done any of these? Pleased with the results?

Doesn't show so well on the photo but I used the stainless mesh but painted it dark red so it was not to "blingy"

I used mesh from MissionMGF to hid the exhaust and heat shield.

I have an old stainless steel kitchen bin awaiting the angle grinder to reshape it, I also have some MG ZS mk1 bumper mesh to fill the recesses, better than that expanded ali mesh IMHO, already got it in the side grills.

Thanks for the responses. Interesting that no one so far has fitted the Satur S/S cover....but then it's quite expensive. I think I'll try some matt black paint for starters.... any ideas on what type of paint will stick?

That diamond mesh from Halfords is identical to the proper MG mesh that is used on earlier MGs. I used that and dremmelled the end off the heat shield to show a nice xpower exhaust. Vrooom vrooom.

I ditched the heat shield.. and have gone for 3mm aluminum instead..
Some might call it extreme lol.. But I wanted to hide everything except for the tail pipes

Back end is then aluminum mesh.. etch primed and painted black.

Im happy with how it looks.. ;)

I disagree, proper MG mesh is woven

The above are decades apart........

Heat Shield ???............................................ what heat shield???

Alas mine fell to bits when I changed the exhaust on "Blue 33". Once I get the floor of the bootrepaired amd going to try some adhesive heat shield and reflector. Any suggestions as to if this is a good idea or not are welcome B) .

Talking cars it is the same as the mesh used on my mg, zr, zs, zt & ztt.

It is woven

Not the same as the ancient MGs though
