engine temperature gauge 9 years 6 months ago #149407

ok, I bought the car last Saturday, broke down - overheated  , Sunday, traced fault to duff ECT sensor, changed that, car works ok, BUT the temperature gauge on the dash doesn't work, oil temp gauge works just fine, cooling no good.

anyone got any ideas?

Yes indeed I do. It's most likely the temp sensor or the wire to it.:-

The brown easily visible in the photo is the Temp sensor for the ECU.

The sensor is the one under this hose elbow and faces straight down. This one operates the gauge in the dash. the plug can be a PITA to get off as access is restricted by it's position. On "Elsie" I found that the wire had come detached from the plug. With difficulty have managed to solder it back into the plug but really need to find a replacement plug to splice into the wiring loom.
