DRL auto dim on indicators 9 years 8 months ago #147418

Maybe on for David (Fatboldingoldgit)

I'm after a controller for my DRLs that will dim the light output when the indicators are on..

Anyone?

Please - no, most irritating idea since the last one to make cars "safer".

Glad I could be of annoyance :-)

Think it was Volvo who started it all.. With proof it reduced collisions??

Happy to stand corrected

Solution will depend upon:-

1 Wattage of DLR,s
2 Type of bulb (LED, HID, normal filament bulb, etc)

Low wattage normal filament bulbs could be done with a resistor
High wattage fillament bulbs could be done with a voltage regulator
HID might not be possible without modifying the existing balast controler
LED's will depend on how they are powered already.

Volvo 240 was the first car to run lights all the time the engine was on. Way before 2006!

I'm ok with DLRs, I just don't like them flashing or diming with the indicators as I feel they distract you away from the indicator, it would be different if every vehicle was the same but there are so many ways it is being done.

I seem to recall that it's a legal requirement that DRL's dim on the side that the indicator is operating, presumably so that they don't outshine the indicator.

The fact that some dim and some don't suggests that there are a lot of illegal installations out there.

Perhaps someone knows the truth on this subject.....

I know they need to dim with headlights/Sidelights, but I've not heard that they have to dim with indicator. Suppose it also depends on how close to the indicator they are.

Next you will be wiring your fogs to come on when you turn the steering wheel. :nonod:

Now that is annoying.

They need to either dim or switch off.. If they are within a certain distance of the indicator (mine are)

Would prefer dim.. But will settle for off during indication
