Greetings.

Hope you are well.

Been absent a while due to hectic promotion at work and some health probs for Sue the Ginger Midget, now awaiting some ops to hopefully resolve.

Anyhow, the TF is still going strong, just passed MoT after a fail on emissions: the first fail I've had in 40 years. (Poxy thing) new air filter, a quick toke of Cataclean into the tank and an Italian tune-up solved that. The main prob was that I was away and Sue took the car for MoT straight from work a mile or so away without a sound warm-up thrashing on the way.

The hard top is off as well.

During the pre test check I noticed a slight noise under R/H cornering load from the N/S rear hub bearing. After looking at Clive's excellent hub replacement guide I feel confident about swapping the hub out but really don't think I can be bovvered to go through the bearing pressing etc bit mainly due to working away a fair bit at the moment.
So my question is....
Are built-up hubs available from anywhere? I looked on t'web with no conclusive outcome.

Any help appreciated. Is it a tedious task replacing the bearings if I have to do it? I have access to a press in our workshop at work.

Additionally, I have become an led convert: we now have a total of 138 multicolour lamps throughout the car. It looks like a vodka bar inside now. Outside as well . And have fitted a splitter. And a spoiler. Covered in sticky carbon fibre stuff. Cool.

Note: at least one of the above statements may be a lie....

Thanks in anticipation,

J & S

Yep, you got me.

I forgot to disconnect the hardtop LEDs and tore the wires out when removing it.
Now down to 112 LEDs now that the illuminated top is off.

It lights the shed nicely though....

Invalid or non-existent item ID.Invalid or non-existent item ID.Hi John,
Nice to see you back “missed your empirical whit and sartorial repartee”

Plenty of S/H hub units, but you may struggle to find a new hub assembly. You could fit a S/H unit to keep you rolling then take you old unit and new bearing to be pressed somewhere in your leisure or just keep the S/H unit fitted.

If you are going for a second hand go for a full assembly as I spent longer trying to get the ABS sensors out than pushing the bearings.
S/H units are around the thirty pound mark and a new bearing (cassette type) vary from £12 to £25, the cheaper ones are generally Eastern European and the more expensive are SKF or Timken.
Here is a couple of links for S/H hub assemblies on flea bay:

New bearing cassettes are all the same for all wheels and also fit the MGF, Rover Metro, Maestro, Montego and Lotus Elise.
The link below is for a Timken kit with stake nut and snap rings.

Congrats on the promotion and I hope Sue's problems aren't too long to resolve.

You didn't fail the MOT, you didn't take the car...

The main prob was that I was away and Sue took the car for MoT

Sorry I can't help on the hub problem.

Welcome back John,

I hope Sue's problems can be resolved without too much grief and pain.

Anyway, I did exactly as per Badger, bought the full caboodle second hand, straight swop then took the original to work to press out said offending item etc etc.
It means I have a spare one now and I will rebuild the second hand one in anticipation that the other will come out in sympathy when I least expect it.

Take car and all the best.

Well..... Jag LEDs may be a step too far, but.....

Following an MIL illumination on the old Jag, I have entered the world of OBD!! I bought a reader which told me that Bank 1 upper oxygen sensor was goosed. Which I duly changed and the light went away.

I also discovered the existence of sensor sockets! Which I also now own one of.

T'is blaaaaaack magic I tell thee! Summon the mob.

Old dog, new tricks. :P ...... who'd of thought it, eh?

So, it's looking like picking a weekend, buying a bearing set and doing it the old fashioned way of hydraulic press, beer, fags, grease, shouting at the Wife for wanting to own any poxy thing built in Birmingham, bloodshed and blasphemy. X 2.

The suggestion of getting a donor hub to refurbish at leisure and then be ready to swap out is good.
Thanks for that. B)
