Our car has been showing a Cam sensor fault on the OBD. Mems3 1.8mpi.
I decided to change it.

The sensor is under the plug cover on to of the engine.

Undo the 3 10mm bolts and remove the cover.

Remove the 8mm bolt securing the sensor and pull free.

Disconnect the plug and pull it up out of the bracket.

Replace with the new 2 part sensor/lead.

This is the replacement sensor and lead.

Reattach and refit the plug.
Refit the plug cover.

Refit the three retaining bolts. Remember that the shorter bolt goes in the middle hole. Tighten up.

Camshaft sensor (MPI engine)- How to Change 1 year 2 months ago #200957

Hello, Looking for the Cam sensor, The car is an MGF with a Dizzy Cap. (MGF MPI?) It shows in your post that it is located on the exhaust side of the cam shaft cover,,,But NOT on my engine, Do you have any idea where it could be located? And would a faulty sensor stop the car from starting? Or would that be likley the Crank Shaft sensor?.

Waiting in anticipation.

Regards

John

A MPI F fitted with a distributor will have no use for a cam sensor so it’s not surprising that you’re having trouble finding one.
Unlike the VVC engines the cams timing are fixed so the crankshaft sensor is all that it needs, it could use the distributor as a sensor if need to.

Later cars without a distributor will have a cam sensor
