Question i have is - as i'm going to pick up new seats i was intending to remove the passenger seat, reconnecting the pre-tensioner with the seat out so that the sytem will still work.

The plan is then to install the new passenger seat and strap the new driver seat to it to bring it back.

Seems too simple - what have i overloooked?

Having picked up a MGF last November and just got it out of the garage due to funds and lots of bits and pieces needing replaced, I came across a connector in the engine bay which was taped up. Being curious I found a loop of wire across the 2 wire connector. So I started the engine and pulled the wire out. The warning lamp for overheated engine bay comes on and goes out when the wire is replaced. I would, obviously, like to have the proper sensor fitted and was wondering if anyone can help with where it should be and where to get a new one as it's been bypassed for a reason.....
It's a 98 K series and I found the wiring on the far right hand side beside the ECU.

Thanks, Keith

Hi there

I'm Massimo from Milan (Italy) and I have a 1999 MGF 75° Anniversary. Currently I'm member of one of the most popular Italian Clubs which are dealing with this car (F/TF) but I do not despise to know other fans of it. So I popped in here to say hello to everyone :bye: and share the passion for this :quote:grumpy:quote: car which provides joys and pains at the same moment:daz:
It is no surprise that my electronic signature states:

"If something is smelling awful, that is chemistry
If something is green and moving, that is biology
If something doesn't work, that is physics or my MGF"

Despite of it I wouldn't ever change my little one for anything else!
Nice to be here!!!! Congratulations on this forum which is very well done!

Hi,

You know when all is ok something is bound to happen, well, noticed a drop ever so slight (1cm) in the expansion bottle, topped it to the seam. This happened twice. Took the engine bay cover off and found a trickle of water on the top join between the gear box and cylinder head.

Since this I wiped this area clean and re-examined today and found a trickle of water at the front of the clyinder head and main block. No mayo in the engine or dip stick or the coolant cap all clean. No raise in water or oil temp, checked hoses no leaks and air locks either, so once a pressure test is completed then I will know further.....

I read through all the old receipts (2 years old) as it mentioned a head gasket and skimmed head using the upgraded gasket kit, but when taking out all the sound proofing to access the engine bay cover I found a small plastic bag.
This bag contained 2 stainless steel dowels, I can only assume these were for the new kit and never used!

Waiting on the mobile mechanic Russell to arrange a date for a fix...........and while he is at it, he offers option packages, i've gone for C as it includes cam belt change, water pump, thermostate etc so the road will be a fair quieter for the next few weeks.

any other ideas or mechanics please post a reply

regards

mainly i'd like to get rid of all the extra bits that are now on as well, i know all the teccys out there will love em but i like things i can fix with a hammer lol.... i dont have twitter, my face or any of thoes other things, so there just "getting in the way" as it were and slowing me down

Hi folks,

I think I need checked into an asylum, because I've decided it's my goal to rust and corrosion proof as much of the car as humanly possible. Forgetting the subframes for a moment (those can be done later, they're not exactly going anywhere) my current task is the suspension and wheel arch area. Also forget the brake pipes and where they connect to the brake flexi as this area is "ok" until heavy corrosion requires their replacement (and will be upgraded when replaced).

My thoughts are thus; purchase new track rods, wishbones, dampners and anti-roll bars. Then get them galvanised and completely sealed. Throw away the crappy rubber bushes and replace with polybush throughout, front and back. Obviously these will be purchased over time and not as a lump sum, since I do not want a second mortgage, haha.

What am I missing or are there any pitfalls with this I should be aware of? I'm very wary about doing anything to the drive flanges or drive shafts to make them more corrosion proof, though I would certainly like to as my rear shafts and flanges look like I've put them in the dishwater with half a ton of salt.

I've been wanting to do this ever since I changed my brake discs and went "ugh!" since the entire wheel arch area looked like a lump of rust. :shake:
