well previously my tf failed the mot on emmisions ,the tester said it was due to a sticking throttle cable and the revs would not hold after 2000 rpm and would shoot up. after talking to a few guys on here it was looking at either a senser had failed or the lamda. got the tf back today from a local garage that specialises in mgs + rovers. they said the tf was running poor, they also cleared the fault codes £45 ouch
checked for air leaks and replaced the lamda sensor (which they said had failed).
total cost with vat £187 double ouch
my next investment for the tf will be a fault code reader .
the car is running fine now, just got to rebook it for the mot

Ouch I have a fault code reader
Rossco borrowed it after he had a light that he could not shift and it did it in one ..
I have not got a clue how to use it or what it does, but if anyone wants to use it feel free, its always in my boot at meets

Never waste your time trying to change other people's opinion of you. They'll think what they want regardless, so just be yourself and be happy

The one on my wifes VW Polo was £135 plus fitting plus VAT so the £78 is very good for a Lambda

Standard OBD2 readers do not work on mk1 MGF's even though the port is the same, for these you need T4.

Home to yellow MGZS180, blue MGZR160, green MGF VVC and red MG Maestro T16.

Being very far away from a Testbook I invested in a Blackbox Solutions system for my Mk1 F. So far I have just usedit to program fobs and have looked through all the systems. The big test may come in April when I have to take my car through our provincial emissions testing for the first time. That should be interesting (But I hope not! )

It seems that no matter what car the Lambda is the first thing replaced...... And quite often it is the problem.
I'm glad it worked for you Ray!

Rich, i quite agree. because my wifes VW Polo was not getting a thrashing and only doing short trips it went in twice whilst under warranty because the engine light came on. The VW technician said to run it on Shell super unleaded fuel (one octane higher than the others) and give it a regular 25 to 50 mile thrash to keep the Lambda clean. this time i tried double dosing with Wynns fuel treatment and a good thrashing but the Itialian tune up didnt last long and it needed a new Lambda ~ the car is 9 years old and has done just over 20,000 miles.

I'm hoping the money I get back from my tax return will cover the cost of a Blackbox Solutions system.

I paid $100 (about £62) for an "emissions diagnostics" on my Toyota Corolla a couple years back. I couldn't believe all they did was plug a OBD2 scanner into it. I know have my own scanner.
