So, my roof is down a lot.. and now there's a toll to pay for that luxury.



Before cleaning - The inside




Tourbillon graciously sent me some Turtle wax roof cleaner. What a great bloke.
I simply sprayed it on and whipped it up into a foam, left it a minute then wiped it off.

The conditioner settling, but still drying. Although, it's clearly done a good job in revitalising the roof material.

All done. Now where's that rain they promised?

It didn't rain. But it did freeze.

'How to clean your soft top using Autoglym' - Provided by MGF Mark.

Get the hose pipe out and thoroughly soak the softop.
Next get the sponge and cleaner from the container.
I sprayed a area of the roof then started to work in the cleaner as you can see it foams up and the amount of dirt to come out is quite frightening



then move to the next part of the roof and do the same



ensure you get into all the little gaps to remove the green mould etc

once you have done the whole roof use the hosepipe to wash off the cleaner.



Now as my roof was filthy dirty. So I cleaned the roof again with the detergent.

Thoroughly rinse the roof off with clean water
you can now put on the protector, you dont need to wait for the roof to dry out.
cover all paint and glass, I used a wet towel to cover the exposed areas.



Spray the roof liberally i used over 1/2 of the bottle. As it dries out the roof will start to shine white for a short time and as it drys out completely it turns to the correct colour

Thats it! One nice clean soft top.

The more time you take to do the roof the better the result

That is a pity and quite extensive. Has this come on quickly?

I have the roof down quite a lot and quite a few times it has become slightly damp from driving in light rain but I have not suffered this.

It looks like your roof has become wet and not had time to dry out properly.

It may be worth others using an antibacterial spray just as a precaution.

Is this a common problem? Not one I've come across on forums so far.

p.s. Have you been sneezing a lot lately?

It does look like mould when was the fabric cleaned and re-proofed properley. Renovo products are the best.

I've neither cleaned it or water proofed it since I've owned it, around 7 months now Bryan.

Yes, it came on very quickly Paul. It's my daily runner so it's constantly under the elements.

I'll fix it and then take preventative measures with 'agent orange' or whatever. It'll make for a good how to. So, I might let it mature a little longer just for some nice colourful pics.

Looks like a spare hood that's been stored in a damp garage for 6 weeks.

Leigh I would clean it asap if I were you. It is likely that it will leave marks you cannot remove if you let it 'mature'.

Well, it's a good job that bling ain't really my thing then innit guv.

Worst case, I'll get me a new one if it rots and falls apart. But I often drive with the roof down in the rain. Often, as you know, when it's freezing cold too. So, it's not like I even need a roof when I'm actually in the car and it's no big deal having a few extra viral passengers on board. I'm a nice guy sometimes. I'll give anything a lift.

mine had this too and it had been renovoed cleaned, restored and reproofed. To make it worse inside there was condensation which was horrid sticky brown stuff I think the car must have been owned by a smoker at some point.

All Ive done for a temporary measure is wipe it so any ideas would be appreciated

When our car sat in a garage car park for 6 weeks whilst they didn't do the head gasket, It came back with this on the inside of the roof (as well as a seized rear calliper from the handbrake being on for the same time! ).

I cleaned it with autoglym soft top cleaner and when dry I renovo'd the inside.
Since then, it's been mould free!

It may also be a sign that the roof material is beginning to allow moisture through, so clean, renovo and waterproof the exterior for good measure.

Putting one of those things in that absorbs condensation eliminates it .. I have 2 in the Landy and was surprised at how quickly they filled with water, and one in Madam ..
